SWOT Analysis

S - Strengths
W - Weakness
O - Opportunities
T - Threat

What is SWOT Analysis?

A SWOT analysis is a realistic, fact-based, data-driven review of an organization. It helps define a student's competitive position, assesses internal and external issues, and evaluates its current and future potential.

When do you use SWOT?

A SWOT analysis can offer helpful perspectives at any stage of an effort. You might use it to:

  • Explore possibilities for new efforts or solutions to problems.

  • Make decisions about the best path for your initiative. Identifying your opportunities for success in context of threats to success can clarify directions and choices.

  • Determine where change is possible. If you are at a juncture or turning point, an inventory of your strengths and weaknesses can reveal priorities as well as possibilities.

  • Adjust and refine plans mid-course. A new opportunity might open wider avenues, while a new threat could close a path that once existed.

SWOT also offers a simple way of communicating about your initiative or program and an excellent way to organize information you've gathered from studies or surveys.

IKIGAI

ikigai_japanese_secret_to_a_joyful_life_

What exactly is ikigai?

The Japanese concept ikigai reinforces the role that purpose plays in our lives. The word originated in Okinawa, Japan - a combination of iki - meaning life and gai - meaning value or worth. Applying the ikigai framework to learning plays a fundamental part in increasing motivation, momentum and focus. It is essentially a pathway that can lead to individual purpose.

Based on a western interpretation of the Ikigai concept, learners are led through a purpose-inspired ikigai process, they are encouraged to consider;

i) their personal and potential professional talents;

ii) the things they love

iii) what the world needs, and;

iv) what they might get recognition for.

Using the ikigai process leads students to a more profound understanding of themselves and this can help sharpen their decisions on the things they enjoy and where they should focus their efforts. If students have time to focus on those four key areas, it supports opportunities that can lead to self-fulfillment.

EQ (Emotional Quotient)

What is EQ?

EQ is a term used to describe a person's level of emotional intelligence, or their skill in dealing with the emotions of themselves and others. The term EQ or "emotional quotient" was coined as a contrast with IQ, which is the measure of a person's intellectual ability. In contrast, EQ does not relate to academic ability, but rather a person's ability to understand and control their emotions, as well as relate to and connect with other people.

What Are the Five Elements of Emotional Intelligence?

Self-awareness describes the ability to effectively recognize and identify one's own emotional experiences. People who excel in this aspect are highly in tune with their emotions and possess a keen sense of what they’re feeling at any given moment.

Self-management  is also important to be able to control and manage your impulses and emotions. Acting rashly or without caution can lead to mistakes being made and can often damage relationships with clients or colleagues.

Empathy is the ability to relate to the emotional experiences of others. Highly empathetic people care deeply about how people are feeling and show sensitivity towards others.

Social Skills/ Relationships are more than just being friendly. This describes them as “friendliness with a purpose”, meaning everyone is treated politely and with respect, yet healthy relationships are then also used for personal and organizational benefit.

Internal Motivation/ Resilience being driven by only money or material rewards is not a beneficial characteristic. A passion for what you do is far better for your emotional intelligence. This leads to sustained motivation, clear decision making and a better understating of the organization’s aims.
